The Purging of the Great Thorns

The sun was not merely a ball of burning gas to the folk of the Sandleford Warren; it was Frith, the Great Eye, the golden source of all life and the witness to every twitch of a whisker. But on this day, the air felt heavy, tasting of ozone and the cold, sharp scent of worked iron. Fiver, the small, twitching seer of the rabbits, sat atop the Honeycomb, his ears flat against his back. "It’s coming, Hazel", he whispered, his voice trembling like a leaf in a gale. "A great white light. Not the light of Frith that warms the fur, but a light that eats the world. Man has grown too clever. He has stolen the fire from the center of the earth and pointed it at the sky". Hazel looked toward the horizon. He couldn’t see the, "Great Thorns"—the long, silver cylinders Man had hidden in the ground—but he felt the vibration in his paws. The world of men was screaming. They had built machines that could turn the grass to ash and the rivers to steam. They were ready ...

I'm Tired of Sleeping Alone

Jordan and Tanya, affectionately called Tassha, had been in a long-distance relationship for over a year. The distance between them was hard, but their love seemed to grow stronger with each passing day. Tanya, living far away, longed to be with Jordan in the UK, to finally share a life together. The longing was mutual, and Jordan, despite his financial constraints, was eager to make it happen.

One chilly December morning, Tanya messaged Jordan with a plan. She wanted to fly to the UK on January 4th, and the flight would cost $800. "I'm tired of sleeping alone," she confessed. "I want to be with you in the same bed."

Jordan's heart ached at her words. He wanted nothing more than to have Tanya by his side, but the financial reality was stark. He replied, explaining his predicament, "I don't have $800, любий. Spending that would make me lose control over every bill I fully pay and my rent payments."

Understanding his situation but still hopeful, Tanya suggested a compromise. "Send $500 to my BTC wallet on the 3rd of January, and the remaining $400 when you get paid again. Please understand, you have to do something. I don't want to be here alone."

Jordan wished it could be that simple. He replied, "It's the most important thing, but it should be easier than we think." Yet, when he checked his accounts, the reality was grim. "I won't have that much in my account by January 3rd. It's a much smaller payment than £500. I also need to be careful with my Zilch card, as it automatically deducts due and overdue payments, leaving me without money. If any payments remain overdue, Zilch can no longer be used."

Tanya's response was filled with disappointment. "So you don't want me to be in the UK with you? It's OK." Her messages grew terse, and the silence that followed was heavy.

Jordan, trying to lighten the mood and reassure her of his love, said, "You are so beautiful, Tanya, my love." But Tanya was not swayed by flattery. "I know I'm beautiful. Answer my question."

Desperate, Jordan considered drastic measures. "Tanya, I would have to disconnect Zilch from my bank and use it to default on a debt."

Tanya, sensing an opportunity, pushed further. "All right, be fast about it so you can deposit a little on my BTC wallet first. I need to be in the UK with you. How can I fall in love with someone, when we can't see each other?"

Jordan's heart sank. He knew he couldn't make it happen without jeopardising his financial stability. "Кохана, I just can't. We need cheaper travel. We should fall in love together during a long bus ride when I come for you."

Tanya's reply was a simple, firm "No."

Jordan felt defeated. "Дорогий, I remember you can pay with bitcoins, and I know you want it to be stylish with bitcoins, but I don't have the money right now."

This conversation paused on a somber note, with both feeling the weight of their dreams clashing with reality. The love was there, strong and undeniable, but the practicalities of life seemed to be an insurmountable barrier. They both knew they had to find a way, a cheaper way, to bridge the distance between them, to finally be together and share the warmth of each other's presence, rather than just the cold light of their screens.
